I decided to go with Sevin dust to treat all 40 chickens for lice. I treated them all a few days ago. A few of them are pretty infested, but I didn't notice any on the older hens. We have a huge run that has no roof. We have a lot of crows in the area.

Do you think the crows transferred the lice to my chickens? I read that only dirty coops get lice, but I'm pretty clean!

Also, when do I treat them again?! I've read 7 days on some posts, and 10 days on others. I don't want to do it to quick or too late so I can kill them all.

What you read is correct- 7-10 days. Anytime in that range that is convenient for you.

10% of your birds will carry 90% of your pest load is how the saying goes. Of course if you procrastinate it transfers to the entire flock. You still treat them all and in case of mites treat the coop as well.

You can use Poultry Dust, permethrin based. I rotate between DE (I know not all believe it does any good but harm) & Poultry Dust, recently added Sevin to the rotation. Some use Adams Flea & Tick spray, some also against using Adams, Sevin & DE.

Permethrin 10 (10ml/half gallon water) is what's been talked of for mites & lice, spray at night (later the better) in a mist. Spraying every crack & all surfaces above/under. Chickens will be roosting, misting under & over them too. There's a thread on "Permethrin" check it out.
