LICE?

We are dealing with the same problem. From my searches using the search bar above, I think this is what we have and are going to attempt the suggested methods.

Here is the link - mites, mites, mites

I covered chickens in 7dust. Got ADAMS FLEA & TICK spray. I spray under each wing. Spray on back of neck & 1 spray under vent. Get down to skin. Then used it to lightly spray bedding areas. Haven't seen them since.

I used a fortress drops on my birds.(same ingredients as frontline) Cat or dog they both work. My rooster had lice pretty bad and I sprayed him with lice spray but every time some would survive and repopulate and his skin would loose some feathers and get all red and irritated . If I missed one spot a new colony would start up again I sprayed him several times already. I found people using frontline it goes through the oil glands and kills bugs that way so it goes everywhere from one drop and doesn't enter the blood. If you do have lice after spraying it might help :)

Turns out we had grain mites from the feed purchased at TSC. From what I have read, this is an ongoing problem with TSC as reported by many other BYC members. We are no longer getting our feed from TSC and have switched over to CFC Farm and Home. They have a much higher turnover on their feed which helps to address the problem.

We treated by dumping the affected feed, pressure washing everything and using DE (food grade) on the affected areas. It has been 1 month since the infestation and we have not had a recurrence.
