I am new to chickens. Mine are only 6 months old. I found one of my chickens vent area very unkept so tried to clean her up and in doing so found she was invested with lice

I hate those things and can't stop thinking about them and how awful she must feel. She is the only one that lets you pick her up so don't know if any other (9 others) have them. What should I do?

when i was at the poultry show recently..they were selling Frontline spray..the guy said it really works!.i bought it for "just in case"...those things creep me out also!!!...

A dry product called Dri-Kill contains sulfur and rotenone, can be used mixed with food-grade DE to dust vent and under wings. Treat all the birds and your nest boxes, roosts, crevices, change bedding. (I know it's so c-cold to have to do this). Afterwards, consider adding a no-pest strip high in the rafters or on a 'cage' so birds can't get at it (dichlorovos). The lice are indoors this time of year to keep warm, too. They can emaciate your birds and infest everything, it's vital to get them under control now.

Search the site under

I got DE and dusted the one chicken I could catch that I found lice on. Then I sprinkled sevin in the litter and on the roosts in the coop. I sprinkled a little DE in nesting boxes but I should probably clean them out and really dust the boxes well? Not sure I put enough sevin down though. I used a 12 oz. container of sevin in a 8' x 4' area.
