lice!!!

I have over 60 laying hens and when they got lice I immediately took action against the bugs with weekly cleanings and DE. The responsibilty to care for your flock is hard at times but it's worth keeping them healthy and happy.

The withdrawal time is probably a month or more for it to get out of their systems, an insecticide like that may stay even longer. A large amount of the dust will just cause a lot of sneezing, animals respitory systems can handle it easy because theirs are different than ours. I'm not quite sure myself exactly why, a friend explained what to do with the hens when they got lice. People can breathe it in but it may not actually do anything, it depends on how much DE was in the air. DE is just crushed up diatoms (fossilized algae with hard shells). It isn't bad to breathe in but our lungs just don't like the irritation it causes, chickens for example are closer to the ground so the DE just doesn't cause them any problems, (i really don't know the answer of why) but trust me, you won't die from it or anything, wear a mask/bandana, air out the chicken coop if felt needed afterwards. DE is a natural insecticide. If taken internally, it can actually help rid the body of parasites. Sorry to confusing anyone.
How does sevin dust get into the eggs to cause such a very long withdrawal period?
You have me confused; First you say humans cant breathe DE safely....now you say people can breathe it but it might actually not do anything. How much DE in the air does it take to be harmful exactly? You said that DE is closer to the ground, closer to the chickens to breathe...wouldnt it be harmful to their lungs as well? Can you prove that DE is a natural insecticide and how does it get rid of parasites inside the body?

Sorry, I put down some faulty info, I forgot to reread what I had typed. Look up DE for yourself and see what it can do naturally. The only thing it is fossils, there is no harm, as I said before I don't know why hens can breathe it in, I've used it on my flock and they're are perfectly healthy and so am I. The sevin is on them their skin absorbs it, so it ends up in the eggs they produce, to cleanse them completely of it will take some time.

To beeconeofhope: Yes it will

Quote: Tell us how sevin dust gets into eggs and why there's such a LONG withdrawal period using sevin dust...you seem to be the expert.
DE is useless when wet as it states in the link...."like sand".....wet....just like inside the chickens innards. DE does not prevent nor treat worms. You'll find out eventually.

Look it up if you want to be more educated! They absorb it through their skin. It takes forever to get it out of them because their cells then contain it and until you stop using it and the old cells die and are replaced with new healthy ones.
