Lice?

How can you tell if your chickens have lice, and hoe do you get rid of it or prevent it? Also, my daughter play in our chicken run with them all the time...can she get the lice from them?
 
the critters that get on the chickens don't get on people, so you should be OK there. You can tell if your birds have them if there are eggs attached around the vent. It may look a little matted as they bunch up like dreadlocks. You may also be able to see them darting around on the face around the eyes, this is how they drink (ick).

I use DE. I sprinkle it in the areas where mine like to take dust baths and even toss some on them when they come to see what I am doing. It's food grade so they can eat it to take care of any internal pests they may have, as well.
