License!!

Yeah, that's true: young people are always going to young people, they might as well raise the driving limit to 25 and leave it at that!

To some degree. At that age 2 years makes a lot of difference in maturity. Wait for 2 years and then look at people that are the age you are now. You'll see what I mean. It will be like that till you're about 30. I think making kids have permits for a year and more hours behind the wheel with an adult is much more effective.

I trained 2 kids and they both tried to kill me at least once. If I had not taken the wheel we would have had a head on collision when my DW dropped her rt wheel off the shoulder and over compensated in a construction zone. My DS who was much better from the get go tried to go down the wrong side of a divided 4 lane city street during a heavy downpour.

Experience is very important, but so is level headed thinking that comes with age.

To the OP. Have fun. A whole new world has just opened up for you. Please be careful and be patient. Always make sure everyone has stopped before you proceed on a green and don't trust people coming from your left with their right turn signal on. Try to remember that at least 50% of the people on the road with you aren't using their brains. They are driving on autopilot.

Congrats and please, wear your SEATBELT. And everyone in the car (if you are allowed passengers). And NO TEXTING and driving. NO drinking and driving.

Be safe so you can live long enough to be one of us old people telling the young whippersnappers to be careful!

I agree, at 18 you would just be braver than at 16. I learned to drive in a hay field long before drivers ed. I think now some have never been behind the wheel before then. Be smart and safe this summer!!!!!
