lid on brooder? flushing?

I've had quail before but bought them as adults. Planning on getting a big group of day olds next month.
At what point does the brooder need a top? When do quail start to flush up?

They can pop (jump) from day 1 they just don't get much height. You will know when you require a lid or at least a cloth to stop them from accidently escaping. Quail pop when they are scared so most of the popping will happen when you are changing food and water or cleaning the brooder.
