Tess smiled. She stood up and got a cupful of water. Gratefully, she downed half of it in one go, before wiping her mouth on her sleeve and tucking into her food once more.
When all that remained on her plate was grease and toast heels, Tess sat back, smiling contedly.

pushed back from the breakfast plate for a few moments before getting up to wash the dishes. " Wanna help me out with these, before we go out into the field? It'll go faster with four hands," he asked. He started washing off his plate in the wash basin and rinsing it carefully before setting it to the side to be ready for the next meal.

His eye caught the subtle trail of blood left by Tess. He followed it with his eyes up to the loft. There weren't very many breakables up there, except the lamp, the wash basin, and... The little glass figurine. The one his baby girl had treasured and insisted he got for her, even though then, they were more wolf than human. Despite that, she had kept it next to her bed. His eyes narrowing a bit, he climbed the ladder just high enough to see the whole loft, and there it was. It was in pieces on the floor. The blood spattered a bit in the mess of glass. He closed his eyes a moment, taking a breath to clear his emotions, then decended the ladder again. He wasn't really angry at Tess. He was just sad. He missed his pack very much, and seeing the broken figure on the floor brought a lot of old wounds to the surface. He looked away, out the window, so Tess could not see the emotion plainly displayed on his face. Even after one night, she had brought a colorful change into his monotonous life. " It was my daughter's," he said. She was always so impractical, wanting trinkets and dolls like the humans."
