No I am not, as it is winter here. though my hens don't seem to know that.... there brooding away. at the end of june I will collect some eggs for them to sit on , they will be very early hatch but oh well.

Oh wow I just realized where you are from! What breed of chickens do you have? If you don't mind I would love to hear about New Zealand. :)

haha, yeap and we've had the worst summer ( all wet we only irrigated for 2 weeks rather than 4 months....) I have pure bred Non bearded Silkies. I also have a Faverolles mix rooster and some frizzled hens . what do you have? What are you planning on hatching? I don't mind at all, what would you like to know?

I'm an Orpington lover. I have a total of 256 of them and just got done with hatching season. I breed Lavender Orpingtons and have recently introduced a red spangled to the flock. That's a project though. This year I sold over 450 chicks, but this last batch I'm saving for breeding next year. Our summer was so dry and its 106 degrees today in California. How cold are your winters?

Our winters vary depending on which part you are in , where I live it gets down to -10 easy. It does snow but not to much as I am to close to the sea however it rains so badly and we flood ( we are flooded now )
Wow that's impressive on the chick front, see in nz we call them blues not lavenders ( which had me confused for a while ). I don't have many chickens due to moving recently and I couldn't take them all with me so I only took my best, faves and pets but I look forward to breeding season. Where I used to live I helped my mother raise her flocks ( over 1000 were hatched last season ) we had many types including some rare ones in nz that aren't so rare in the USA
We did have Orpingtons and I had 3 faves who were raised with my silkies but I had to leave them behind as they were good breeding birds

Wow those are some cold winters! Lavenders in the USA are called "self blue" because they breed true to there color unlike a normal blue Orpington. Got any questions about the US?

Oh I see. Yeah but remember we use celcius rather than Fahrenheit. Um what's your summer like ? And how wet is your winter ? I know you have lots of predators also
