Life on the farm - Updates from Bethel

Wow - I love the petunias - so pretty. I too love the flowers that come up around old homesteads and used to always stop and dig up something or another while my husband waited in car down the street ready to take off and leave me if anyone drove by.

So many different bulb flowers came up around here and all down the hillside into the woods. I'm trying to transplant some of those now but boy are they deep.

I'm leaving a lot of the overgrown beds to see what else comes up now that it is warmer. I had never seen native/wild petunias but sure would love if some came up.

BamaChicken - isn't it great how the Lord provides?

Kind of obsessed with death and dying and other's people's heartaches aren't you?

This was your question for Speckledhen when she lost Hawkeye.

What is it with you?

Well here are some current updates from the farm.

1. My daughter got married April 26th. Here are me and my three "real" babies at rehearsal dinner the night before. The bride is on right in photo.

2. Flower planters and beds that seemed dead/empty were left to see what would bloom and flowers are coming up everywhere.

3. Our flock is steadily expanding so we built new stadium-style roosts in hen house yesterday.

4. Updates on flock:

Newest member - a blue ameracauna hatched a few hours ago - already eating and drinking and not fully dry/fluffed.

Ducks are really getting big and make a muddy/wet mess of hen house so they have a pool outside and now have hanging waterers inside.

Well, it's always busy here on the farm these days. The mailman just dropped off my box of Blue Orp eggs from Speckledhen and they are going in bator as soon as the last one in there finishes pipping in an hour or so. Perfect timing Cyn. I have some BC Marans from Mergmet coming soon too. So we'll have not only every color chicken running around but every color of egg.

Beautiful photos. I like that roost too. We left a lot of plants over the first year in our new house too. I was surprised at the wonder of gorgeous day lilies and pink peonies.

Happy Spring!

Wow Miss Prissy - you have pink peonies coming up naturally? I wish I did. They live like a hundred years and I was shopping on-line for some just the other day - they cost about $40 each but they are so beautiful. I'm just not the best at planting things and having them turn out as envisioned so the flowers that are coming up naturally around here are the best - I don't have to do anything to them.

If I can figure out what to dig up and when and how to send I'd send you some. I have 2 huge beds and a small bed. They die back at the end of summer. I mow the dead stems down. They come back every spring. They grow fast and come up looking like red asparagus spears. Mine are setting bloom heads now. I'll photograph them when they start to open.

I do so enjoy life here on our little farm and I thank God every day. Never would have thought chickens could be so much fun and would lead to an entire life-style change.
