Life with Roosters?

I know what u mean, I understand my hens by their vocalizations. That's why I think I'll love Roos too. I only ordered one from mpc but mcmurry is notorious for sending Roos and I'm cool with that. I have about 25 different breeds coming lol

Roosters are interesting. This is the first year we have had many, right now we have TOO many at 8. Only 1 is a standard sized, an EE. He generally behaves himself. The rest are Bantams. One is a Silkie, and I was so desperate for him to be a hen. My girls would hold him all the time, I would hold him, now he flogs us all. Same with a tiny little silver rooster. I'm stuck with several tiny roosters that aren't worth eating, the downside to straight run bantams, lol.

They start crowing at 3:30am, and go off in "harmony" between them every 6-14 seconds. Stick with one rooster, hah.

OMG HAHAHAHA

We ordered ours from Murray too. I was really happy with them.

25 breeds? Wow! I'll bet you can't wait!

Oh my, a chorus of roos! Lol!

I love to hear mine crow, but we live way out in the middle of nowhere, so it doesn't bother anyone else. We're going to have at least 3 more when we order this spring. Do they all have distinctive crows?

28 now from mcmurry just added a dominique and dorking lol. i keep adding lol. I also have 21 coming from MPC and then 30 ducks in april lol

We only had one freebie with our order, it turned out to be a Cuckoo Marans rooster. I loved him dearly, he was so friendly and sweet (he and our black Andalusian cockerel were killed by a bobcat about 3 weeks apart). We have since taken drastic measures to protect the rest of our flock and haven't seen any more losses.

We want more Cuckoo Marans chicks, and I am very intrigued by the Dominiques, we've added some of those to our order as well.

It sounds like you will have your hands full! I never knew how addictive chickens would be, but I'm SO glad we decided to get them.

I actually have one deaf ear from surgery, it's the only time I appreciate it! Some of them have distinctive crows, the Silkie's "crow" is a death rattle groan, then I can pick out about 4 other distinct crows. I was trying to figure out today is two brother bantam roosters would be worth eating. Too small to eat, too annoying to keep. Argh! We have two buff brahma bantam roosters, the black silkie, EE, silver pigeon sized mystery breed, two brother backyard mutts and a black Frizzle. The only one I don't hear crowing in the morning is the Frizzle.

Sounds like you have your hands full! Hopefully they will settle down a little. Roosters are definitely competitive.

I love the way Frizzles look, they are so fluffy!

Omg chickssurreal crazy addicting but fun. I ordered a blue ameraucana roo and hen and I would love a maran roo! I'm up to 49 chicks coming in 4 weeks lol I'm out of control at this point. Word of advice don't order so far away or u will keep adding lo
