We have 8 chicks from 4 1/2 weeks to 6 weeks old. They are in our storage room which keeps a constant 60 degrees or so. Do they need the light on 24 hours a day? Is 60 degrees warm enough for them at night? They are also getting big, how much room should they each have in the box? I know what is needed for full grown chickens but is there a formula for chicks of different ages? One chick is huge, about the size of a pigeon and one is really small, about the size of a dove, maybe? The rest are somewhere in between.

They do huddle under the lamp to sleep sometimes but not always.

Their heat right now should be about 80 degrees, so yes 60 is still too cold. Right about 6-7 weeks is when they will be ok with that temp.
