The chick is about 5-6 wks old. The neck feathers developing look like hackles to me. This chick has a different looking body from the other chicks (all same age and all are suppose to be pullets). Is it too early yet to conclude this chick is going to be a rooster? thanks

If you post some pics, I could probably tell you if it's a roo. Try to get full body shots and next to another light brahma chick would help too.

All the chicks came from MacMurrays....there were two brahmas, but one died - don't know why; just came home one day to find it dead. Anyway, the other chicks look like they are developing normally. The brahma has a short body, long legs and a long neck...cutest face I have ever seen tho'.

There's a thread on here somewhere, in the breeds forum, where someone was laying out her conclusions about sexing Brahmas and it made sense to me! She was saying that you can really tell by the shape of the tail when they start to feather out. I believe the roos have shorter, poufier tails and the hens have longer, stiffer tail feathers.

I have four 11 day old LB in my new flock of hatchery chicks and they are large but kinda wimpy. They've got chubby poofier bodies than their brooder mates.

Not particularly brave, a bit clumsy and they didn't seem to handle the shipping as well as the other chicks did. They're perfectly fine now and gorgeous even as they're feathering out. I really like them a lot and they're a bit of comedy in the brooder

No real clue what they are gender-wise but if I can go by the other posters conclusions (and she had lots to back it up!!) I probably have two roos and two hens and it's going to be HORRID to have to take the roos into the butcher...I know I'm going to love them. Bah!!
