I think Brahmas are great meat birds (my non hatchery ones anyway) at 5 month old 6 lb roaster tonite. Not as much breast meat as a franken chicken, but makes up for in it in dark meat.
We have rir's its worth the time to only eat the roos and sell the hens that you dont want to keep, they go for 15-25 easily here and that is for old hens. they lay really well about an egg every other day sometimes more, and my older ones lay eggs so big they wont fit in the carton right. It doesnt take 6 months though for butchering if you dont want it too, the meat will be a little on the tougher side by six months which is fine if your not frying it, I usually save a few whole and then cut up the rest (we only do 3-4 at a time) and use the carcass to make chicken stock. you would be suprised the difference in taste from grassfed chicken stock and storebought, makes the stuff in a can seem like water
