Light Brahmas not laying yet!

My two light Brahma hens are almost 9 months old and they have not started laying. I know the breed develops rather slowly but, this is pretty darn slow. They've been on layer pellets for at least 4 1/2 months. Why have they not started to lay? Thanks!!

My brahmas starting laying around 5 1/2 months. Maybe the winter is effecting the start of their laying? Do you live in a cold climate? Check the area below their vent, on their underside, and make sure you don't feel anything squishy (like fluid) or hard (like a cyst). Sometimes hens can have reproductive issues that prevent them from laying, but since it's both hens, odds are that it's something else.

Breeder quality or hatchery quality? The hatchery quality are likely to start a younger age.
I waited 9 1/2 months on two of my dark brahma hens to get with the program.
As long as you are sure that they aren't laying elsewhere, when free ranging, etc., then my advice to you is patience. You'll see eggs soon I'm sure. They'll make up it up to you for keeping you waiting so long, I promise.

My girls were spring babies and did not give me an egg until the week before Christmas!...The good news is they have been laying ever since!..They were hatchery chicks...Boy their eggs are beautiful colors ranging from a very pretty pinkish to a dark brown spotted egg...Give them time they will lay for you!

My Buff's started laying around 6months. I did up the protein because they are a dual purpose bird. I give them Flockraiser, Layena and Black Sunflower seeds. I offer a lil scratch in the morning and that's it, Don't offer too many treats.

I got them through a hatchery (Ideal Poultry out of Cameron, Tx). I live in South Texas and a couple of weeks ago we has some really cold weather for around here. So that may be a factor in all this. I'm not positive they haven't layed while free ranging but I have seen any signs of that. I definitely need to cut down on the treats. I just love when they all start flocking to me when they hear that scratch dinging agianst the feed scoop! Thank ya'll very much for all ya'lls input/wisdom

My LF Light Brahmas lay later in the day than my other hens. Also if they are laying on the Range/in the run, the egg can get broken, at which time they eat it!
One of mine likes to stand just as the egg passes, so she can eat it when it cracks. I changed her behavior with a week inside the house in a short pet porter til she laid, I removed her to a larger pet kennel after she laid & I collected the egg. She then had all day in the yard, back to the small kennel at night. After a week she returned to the Coop and lays in the nestbox properly.
