Hello. This is one of my 6 week old Barred Rocks. He/she has all the field marks of a pullet... Dark wash on feet, longer tail, small comb still, squared off hackle feathers, etc. I don't know if these are totally diagnostic or just a guideline, or even correct at all. Maybe leucism? Either way, this bird is much lighter in color than the others. Always was even before feathering. It had a striking pale face.

My question is if this is a rooster, or just an interesting coloration. We can't keep roosters so hopefully the latter. Either way it's a very pretty bird. Thanks! Sorry for poor photos!

Not sure, the comb looks same as the others. Don't really have a better pic currently other than this one from a couple weeks ago. You can see the pale face.

I wondered maybe a different breed or subspecies, but these were from Tractor Supply and I assume their hatchery hammers out thousands of the same breed day after day. I suppose its possible something else slipped in the box.

We actually have one barred rock that is also pale in color. She is definitely a hen. Looks just like the rest but her comb is pink and her feathers are grey instead of black. She has darkened with age. I was looking for answers too. Lol. All of mine came from a very reputable breeder.

(I tried replying earlier, but wasn’t a member yet. Lol….. and totally realize I am totally late)
We have one pale barred rock as well. Her feathers were a very light grey & white stripe instead of black when a chick. Her comb is pink and her feathers are a dark grey in contrast to her sisters. She’s definitely a pullet hen & they all came from the same very reputable breeder. She and one other are just slightly larger than the rest, but my smallest and bravest Chicken is the only one that has began laying.
I found this looking for answers in Dagmar’s color variation.
