I have a light sussex rooster with several hens I got from a chicken rescue that are presumably warrens. They are brown hens and I found there are a few different brown hen breeds used in commercial egg production. I have maran hens that I plan to breed with my sussex rooster but I am also curious what will happen if I hatch some eggs from the warrens. My cockeral is very friendly and has a nice character. I really want to breed from him and have some roosters for the table as well as more hens to lay eggs to sell for my egg selling business and also have hens to sell for extra cash.

Breeding a Light Sussex rooster with your brown hens will probably produce daughters that are reasonable egg layers, and sons that are reasonably sized to eat (dual-purpose size, not as big as specially-bred meat chickens.)

Chicks from that cross will probably show a lot of white, possibly with some bits of black, and some red leakage as they grow up.
