Lighting for winter

I'm wanting to put some solar lights outside my coop for more light on a timer this winter. I was wondering how much light us necessary?

Are you trying to increase daylight to keep them laying?

If so lighting the run isn't where they would need it.
You would need to increase the light inside the coop in the mornings.

For winter laying?
If so, they need to be in the coop, coming on early in the morning, along with feed and water. ...and not sure you can use solar lights on a timer.

Mainly just so they keep laying. Like in the place they roost, not right outside?

Yes.
Might help to know what your coop and run look like(pics and dimensions), the age(in months)and number of birds, and what your climate/location is.

West Texas area by Lubbock mostly mild winters. Coop is 4x6feet run is pretty large with an attached triangular tunnel of about 50ft and I often let them out when we're around outside. I was thinking just putting some on the fence by their entrance. There is currently 3 hens 19weeks and a couple roosters 27weeks.
