Lighting g question

I have 4 hens 24 weeks old I live in conn. the days are getting shorter, they have not layed any eggs yet, should I provide extra lighting to the young hens.? Small coop how many watt bulb 4x3.

They say you should be able to read a newspaper at chicken level.

A lot of people provide 14 hours per day of light. I personally like to have the light cut off at 10 pm and back on at 8 am so the cocks don't wake up the neighbors.

You want to provide 14-16 hours of light. If your birds are outside in the daytime, then those hours count. You want a 60 watt clear bulb on a timer to come on in the wee hours of the morning and then shut off again once the sun is up to save electricity.

Right now, my bulb comes on at 4am and goes off at 7:30 am.

Don't make the mistake of leaving the light on 24/7. Chickens need a dark period to sleep and will actually lay less (and have behavior problems) if they have a light on 24 hours a day.
