I have gotten four chickens recently that live in a 8X10 metal shed with an outdoor run attached which is also 8X10. Right now the slidding doors are kept open with a screened door infront to keep my gals in. The only light they get is when they go outside. Even with the shed doors open it is pretty dark inside. They can go outside when ever they want, but tend to stay inside more then out???.All four came from a local breeder that had them out side in large fenced in area.

Do I need to put a light inside for them. They are about 18 weeks old now. No eggs yet... but hopeful

we added a light in our hen house only because we want to try to keep them laying through the winter but if you don't mind them slowing on the laying in the cooler months then it should be fine. I wouldn't think it would harm them as long as they can get to light if they choose to.
