Are you having a come to Jesus moment with me?

Martin a carjacker....really? Where is that evidence? Where does a news organization say that?

My 14-year-old son did graffiti in a public place (it has been dealt with), and I smoked pot as a stupid teenager (a misdemeaner, where I lived) and did other stupid things. My son, while not at school, also travels with a backpack full of tools (bmx). This doesn't make me or my son horrible people, hardened criminals or violent. The fact that Martin got in trouble at school doesn't mean much. There is also no indication that Martin was violent. It also is completely irrelevant to the case. All Zimmerman could see was a kid, in a hoodie, who "has something in his hand". The thing in his hand that so worried Zimmerman in the 911 call was an Arizona Iced Tea...very threatening. Zimmerman saw what he expected to see when he saw a black male in a hoodie...he saw a criminal, a threat, a suspicious person, a person who might have a weapon, a scary threat.

Black panther put a 10,000 dollar bounty on zimmermans dead or alive (isn't that illegal?). People tweeted out zimmermans address which turned out to not be his. There is racism by the pea gallery on both sides of this case. Also zimmerman is also a minority which has not been talked about as much.

I would say that it is more like vigilante justice or hate - not racism. They are not after him because of his race, but because of the crime they believe he committed. They are no better than him in this respect. It's wrong for these groups to go after him because they would be guilty of the same vigilante behavior that Zimmerman was guilty of. Zimmerman should be tried in court and all evidence evaluated.

As to Zimmerman being a minority - You can be a minority and still be prejudiced against other groups or minorities. It's pretty common, unfortunately.

They are going after him because he is white (he is also half latino) and committed a crime against a black person. This would not have gotten as much media attention if it was black on black or white on white. Also black panther would not be putting a bounty on him if he was black. Then there are also the racist t-shirts that are getting sold.

It is called suspicious activity and it is acceptable under community policing standards. Confronting him is not but it is legal.

The only thing that can convict Zimmerman is hard evidence, eyewitnesses or admission. Proponderance of evidence cannot as I understand it but reasonable doubt can set him free under our system and you keep missing that point or do not understand what it entails and I am beginning to think it is willingly to just argue with someone you dislike. Either way you are wrong. Do you really think a prosecutor is not aware of racial bias and that they would botch a possible murder case? Listen to yourself. They know a winning case and a loser and are not going to waste time on trying someone without a chance of winning and you are armchair quarterbacking to prove something that will never get beyond a grand jury. You may be right but I disagree and I think it is time to leave it at that.

It doesn't matter how many times you say it - I am not referring to the gf or anything she said. I have followed the story closely and there is no evidence that Trayvon was doing anything when Zimmerman began to follow him. Why are you so biased that you cannot accept/concede that that is true? It is true, name the illegal activity that Trayvon was doing when Zimmerman spotted him. You can't because he wasn't doing anything .

White people are a minority in Southern Cal. so being a minority really means nothing except in geographics.

As far as I am concerned there is only one race... the human race.

Not only Socal, in FL its the same thing. Some areas are more cuban or haitian than white or african american. My son once was one of two kids that were white in a headstart program. Didnt go well long. I had to take him out after he got bitten and the teacher couldnt tell me who did it.

Chickened, why are so hot about blaming the boy for his own death? Are you driven by some prejudice? The gunman knew nothing of his background and, given that he was following him, the boy could not be said to be breaking into property or cars or doing anything else wrong prior to the shooting.

Your assumed right to be shown what you call 'respect' by young people seems a little like someone who demands it because he can't earn it. Come on, chap, you can't really believe that lack of 'respect' (you are embellishing the sorry with that supposition, of course) would be a justification for murder.

The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll

Bob Dylan

William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ringed finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gath'rin'
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now ain't the time for your tears.

William Zanzinger who had twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering and his tongue it was a' snarling
And in a matter of minutes on bail was out walking
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now ain't the time for your tears.

Hattie Carroll was a maid in the kitchen
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didn't even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on the whole lower level
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle
And she never done nothin' to William Zanzinger
And you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Take the rag away from your face
Now ain't the time for your tears.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em
And that ladder of law has no top and no bottom
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence
Ah, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears.

The fact of the matter is that the police wanted to charge Zimmerman. The lead investigator said he "wasn't convinced" by Zimmerman's testimony.

The cops listed Martin's death as negligent homicide/manslaughter....

The person most familiar with the case, the lead investigator, didn't believe Zimmerman's account. He wanted the killer charged. He was overridden.

This is the wisest post in this entire thread. Thank you! 49 people shot on the South Side of Chicago last weekend. Where is the outcry concerning that?

All I can think of is Bread and Circuses....

Tragic event (because it resulted in a death), I agree. But oh, how convenient of a distraction this is from other issues. I mean, do you think this is the only recent time that some sort of altercation resulted in one man shooting another man? Before this hit the news, what were we all worried about? Oh, yeah, the possibility of a bigger altercation -- with Iran. This story has simply become "something shiny" to catch our attention. It's sad that the young man is dead, but it was just as sad when all the other young men were killed in similar situations that didn't seem to make it into the news. Sorry if I sound cold, but there's only so much I can worry about, and this case doesn't make the list.
