Lilly's Life:

Chapter 6

I pouted. I was getting too hot in this box. I sat down in one of the corners and decided to think about some memories I had recently.
I remember just a week ago I was playing with Rose outside of the coop and it was a warm, sunny day out. We went out and played in the weeds. We thought we were safe, but I had a feeling something big was going to come out of the bushes and eat us.
We were minding our own business; playing kickball with whatever we could find to play. Just right when it was my turn to kick, a cat came out! We both screamed and darted for a tree. Thank goodness my dad was around. He shooed the cat away which made the cat never to come near us again. I love my dad….
I just got snapped out of my train of thought when I heard something creak. I was curious so I went up onto the platform and looked out. Nothing. I couldn’t see what was below. I heard something walking—with four legs…. I started to wonder what it could be. I jumped off the platform and huddled in a corner. What if it wants to eat me too? Just like that cat.
I heard sniffing. Something was sniffing around. Then I heard scratching against my box. I then heard some growling. Now barking. It was a dog! I panicked. I hope it was only a tiny dog like a Yorker. I heard another creak and voices.
“Dez!” a human voice shouted.
There were more padding of the feet and my guess was the dog ran off into a corner.
“Dez! Come here now!” I saw the human go to one side of the room looking for the dog.
“Where are you Dez!? No bone for you then!”
The dog didn’t seem to care. He probably wanted me more than a juicy bone. The human stomped her foot and took something out of her pants. She then spoke into the weird thing.
“Jessie, you better get your dog out of the chick’s room when you get home!” Then she closed the thing and walked out. So she didn’t care about me? She didn’t care if I got eaten? Maybe she thought that if she leaved, the dog would scurry out secretly.
For about 10 minutes I didn’t hear anything. But as I began to relax I heard foot-steps again. They were coming towards me too. Then the dog stood up on twos and put his paws on the box, looking down at me and growling with fierce teeth. I screamed.
