3:30 am and a ruckus outside with the ducks. (They free range in my backyard, about 1/2 acre) I go out to find 4 of them running back and forth in front of the deck going crazy and can hear one in the back of the yard squawking for all it's worth! So i grab a light and go out to find Lilly in the pool not seeming to be able to get out. I picked her up out of the pool and she was absolutely soggy and shivering....obviously not normal. I brought her in to warm her up and found what look like punctures at the base of her tail. Questions: Best opinions on treating this? And is it possible one of the drakes did this or what do you think it was?? I have a fully fenced yard but I also live where there are coyote and a great horned owl that frequents my house....

THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!!!

First I would check how big the wound is. Put as much neosporin on it as you think necessary. What I do is i find a large bandaid and keep it covered for along as possible. They tend to heal very fast so keep her in the garage tonight and see how the wound looks. If its not that bad you can let her out again but if its not good keep her in. Make sure it doesn't get infected.

Thank you for the response! There are two about as big around as my finger...poor girl!! What I've done so far is when I brought her in to begin with I rinsed it with warm water so i could see it better then concentrated on getting her dry and warm. She was much happier after that! Thankfully once warm she perked up! Now she's in the house in a large dog crate. She's eating, drinking, walking, and pooping fine! Do you know what kind of antibiotic she could have if it does get infected???

I think that if you keep it covered and clean you should be ok, but if she needs any treatment go to your nearest poultry supply store and ask what they have for a wound. I think she'll be ok
Good Luck
