I have a chicken that recently started limping, you i’ve been separating her for about 3 days know thinking it was a sprain. I opened up the enclosure and felt her crop and it’s very squishy. Her poop is very runny and she has just been laying in her enclosure with her eyes closed. She also hasn’t layed an egg while she’s been separated. Could she have sour crop? Or be eggbound? help!

Egg binding is deadly within 48 hours.. usually death is caused by inability to poop and subsequent Sepsis... She's not egg bound.

Yes to possible crop issues. It should not be squishy. See if this article helps..

The limping is still suspect. Were you able to feel any heat or swelling, or see any bruising, or other abrasion?

Separation is not preferred UNLESS the other chickens are picking on, bullying, or keeping her away from feed/water. Looks like she's still within their sight though, so that's good.

I see she's got peepers on.. and looks like a gold sex link.. some other reproductive issues aside from binding can effect these ladies. What is her age? Was she vaccinated against Marek's?

I hope you get answers and she recovers quickly! :fl

i was not able to pinpoint any swelling, but i can take a better look at her when i am home later. she has peppers on because she loves to peck her flock mates so i put them on to deter her from that. i separated her because we have a raised coop and i wanted to save her the stress of having to get up and down. she’s 2 years old and i am pretty sure she was vaccinated!

I just massaged her crop & green liquid came pouring out of her mouth, i’m 90% sure she has sour crop. how would i go about treating it?
