Limp Muscovy Drake -

They definitely can land wrong when jumping down. I use a smaller trough that I fill with water to let my ducks swim. We retrofitted it with a valve so it's easier to empty. But, muscovy drakes aren't the first ones junping in, so sometimes, I pick mine up and put him in. The funniest thing about picking up my drake (whether I put him in the pool or just to check him over) is that afterwards, he avoids me. Any other time he is annoying me - poking at me or trying to bite my leg. 😬
I'm not allowed to come close to my boy, he doesn't like me and if I come close enough to where he can stretch his neck, i get bit. 🙄

Still love him though, of course.

His name is Cocaine.. Because, well..

When he comes in for a bite, that's when you quickly get behind and pick him up. Hold his wings against his body and it makes life easier. I take care of my ducks by myself, so I've learned a few tricks. Also, using a towel on your lap (for protection) or wrapping it around their face to check their body/legs works too.

I think there is a youtube that shows how to pick up a muscovy. If I remember correctly it looked like the girl had a pretty tame one and she was trimming it's wings.
