Limping, and now foot is turning green?

Hey there, I'm having the exact same problem with one of my birds. It is now day 3 since I noticed the bruise and the limping, I've already tried the salt bath, given her aspirin and put antibiotic cream on the affected foot. Please give me some more advice on what else I should do, thanks.
Hi @xxEggderxx :frow Welcome To BYC

You have found an old thread, it looks like the OP has not been on in a couple of years, but we will be happy to help you.

Can you post some photos of the chicken and the foot?
Tell us little more about what you think may have happened - did she get injured by a predator, get into a fight, unknown cause, etc.

Have you looked at the bottom of the foot to see if there is any cuts or scabs?

General care for bruising would be what you are already doing - soak in epsom salts and giving an aspirin solution for a couple of days for pain. If you haven't done so, restricting her activity would be a good idea, some birds self regulate activity due to pain, but some need to be caged within the run so they will rest and recover.

Look forward to more information and photos! Keep us posted.

Hello @xxEggderxx, this is a very old thread, not sure if any of the posters are still active on the forum. Can you post some pictures of your birds foot? Do you know how your bird was injured? Can it bear weight on the foot? Have you examined it (comparing to the uninjured foot) for any fractures?
If it is only bruised badly and sprained then daily epsom salt soaks can help. If there is a fracture then splinting may help. For aspirin, use a low dose tablet (81 mg) and give 1/2 a tablet 2 or 3 times a day if needed. It should not be given long term as it may cause intestinal upset. If the bird cannot bear weight on the foot then using a chicken sling may help to let it rest.
