So we just picked up a group of chicks at TSC this week, and as you all probably know, they don't label their chicks very well. This one was in a bin labeled straight run, and I think it's blue laced red Wyandotte? Although it could be a golden laced one? What do you think? I know we got silver laced Wyandottes out of the pullet bin. They came from Hoover's in Iowa and they have a chick ID page if you want to take a look for reference.

Anyway, while in the store, this chick was lying down. Once we got in the car I noticed it was limping. It looks like there might be a problem in the joint or in the toes. I'm not sure if the toe is funny shaped as a result of the joint problem, or if the joint is messed up due to curly toe. We have been giving it eggs so it can get vitamins and riboflavins. It's eating and drinking just fine, and it doesn't seem like the others are picking on it (plus, it's really good at hopping!). Either way, I just want it to be healthy. I want to know though if there's anything we can do to correct the leg problem, or just help it get vitamins and let her be gimpy? Any thoughts will be appreciated!

Kind of, but not properly. It doesn't put it all the way down, but it can lay down and stretch it all the way forward. It doesn't seem to stretch it back at all.

Thanks I found that very interesting! I will definitely look into slipped tendons more, and see if we dare to try a splint or if we should take her to our bird vet.. don't want to hurt her so will definitely read up on that more.

@Pyxis I know this is off topic for my post, but I love your beautiful Ayam Cemani pic! Very gorgeous! I am in PA, and we were looking at some different breeds to hatch, and are soon getting some Svarts. We want some Ayam Cemanis and have relatives that do as well but haven't gotten any because they aren't supposed to do well in the cold! But you're in Vermont, and it gets cold there, so how do they do in the cold? Or have you kind of bred them to be accustomed to the cold in your area? Just curious!

Thanks! Mine do very well in the winter here :) And my coop is entirely open on the front too. It doesn't bother them.
