I have a hatchery Rhode Island Red that pulled up lame today. I've noticed her roosting on the ground quite a bit today and thought it was odd. Later I noticed the limp. I'm new to chickens and I've heard a lot about bumblefoot. I did my best to check the bottom of her foot (which wasn't great) and I didn't see an abcess. Looking at the top of her middle toe, it looks like maybe she scraped it? I put some Vetricyn on it, but, would appreciate any input.

Apologies in advance for the photo of the bottom of her foot. A video was the only way I could get the bottom of it, so, the image is a screenshot of the video. Thanks in advance!

Is she bearing any weight on it? Have you tried checking her knee for swelling or warm feeling? Is she isolated by herself to confine her from further injuring it? You can keep her confined to minimize her using it and give her baby aspirin for pain. If she is showing no other symptoms she could of just sprained it.

It does look like she injured it. It may be sore. Keep up disinfecting it daily. If she keeps limping and you want to post a video to YouTube with a link here of her walking, we will take a look. Watch that others do not pick on her while she is limpy, and make sure that she is getting enough to eat and drink. Hopefully, it is nothing serious.

She does bear weight on it. She is still (very) interested in food and I have not seen any other symptoms. Any idea how much baby aspirin is safe to give her? I don't want her to be any more uncomfortable than she has to. :-/

She is by herself in the barn. She gets closed in there at night and when the weather is bad. I will try and get a video this evening to post it.

Thank you both for your comments!

@Kiki posted the dosing at one time, if she is willing to again for you.
