Limping chickens.

I now have two chickens limping. I'm pretty sure neither is bumble foot. Can't see anything at all wrong with one of them. Any ideas?

Roosts too high? Amorous roo? Mad dash from a predator?

Leg injuries are not uncommon in poultry. Keep an eye on them for a few days. Hopefully they resolve on their own.

The roosts are especially low because they are Silkies. I don't like them having to get up too high. One is a very young one, and the other has been limping for weeks.

The older one had a little cut on her foot that I treated and nothing gets better.. I hate to see her limping around. I can't imagine what happened to the young one, it's not even roosting yet.

I have a hen that every couple months or so she'll start limping, I check her feet everytime and there is never a problem. Its like a mystery everytime it starts, but what we do to help her is by seperating her for part of the day. We have a fenced in coop, its a few feet on each side but its sides are only fencing. We use it to seperate the chickens for various reasons and to keep new babies safe but give them a place so they are outside. We would let her do her morning thing and be with the flock but by mid day she couldnt keep up bc of the limp. We put her in the pen and she always seemed pretty content, acutally relieved to be able to rest (the other hens and roo like to sit along side of the pen so shes not alone, super cute). After a few days of giving her a break she would eventually start to walk normal again and rejoin the flock. If your hens problem is anything like my hens then this should work for you just a little R & R from the rest of the flock

I have a hen, Barred Rock, who has the same thing going on right now. I put them in a new larger coop. When I prepared the coop I put down laminate flooring for easy clean up then covered it with shavings. BAD IDEA. The shavings got super slick on the floor and I am pretty convinced that she slipped or moved wrong in the coop causing the leg injury. I have since covered the floor with rubber matting so it is no longer slick and she seems to be doing better. I have also kept her in a smaller pen so she doesnt wander as much. That helps too. I would agree though that its probably from moving too quickly or slipping on something. Good Luck!
