I noticed that my runner duck had a bit of a limp and noticed this on her foot. Is it bumble foot? If so, how do you treat it? What had worked for you?

when my duck got bumble foot i soaked it twice a day in Epsom salt then sprayed it with vetericyn and covered the bottom, top and leg with antibiotic ointment with no pain reliever. it work well for me.

We'll try that! We've been soaking her feet and putting an iodine tincture but not really sure how to bandage a ducks foot! We've dumped their pools so the foot stays dry for now. I think one of my other ducks might be getting it too. So hopefully that will help limit exposure.

I don't bandage the feet - I do pretty much what quackers619 does, and make sure to do it at bedtime, when they'll be resting and not swimming, so the medication stays put longer. It can take several weeks for it to completely go away, but I don't mind, since it doesn't involve the risk and pain of surgery.

Thank you. I have been looking at all the treatments and cutting sounds so awful! I would like to avoid that if at all possible.

I never had to cut it open thank goodness. Do you have pine trees or concrete. We have tons of pine trees so i spend lots of time picking up pine cones and raking pine needles and picking up pieces of pine cones that the squirrels love to throw out of the trees........ I think that's how mine keep getting it plus they roamed down or concrete driveway and i have read its bad for their feet

No pine trees but a small patch of concrete. They don't spend much time on it though because it isn't shaded. We have two big pecan trees though.

I'm having a similar problem with my khaki campbells. My hubby took them to the vet. Vet said not bumble foot- which would be a sore on the middle/base pad of the foot. These sores are along the toes. Vet said they're callouses from too much walking and not enough time in the water. Pressure on these causes inflammation which can cause infection. Our 3 ducks are currently stuck in our shower to keep them out of the mud in the yard. On the vet's recommendation we are rinsing w/ vetericyn, then spreading the bottom of the foot with hand lotion and then bandaging. This is once per day. They are on antibiotics 2X per day...getting them to take the pill is a challenge! Hope this helps someone!
