Hi everybody! I am in 4-H and all of our chickens (47) are kept at a farm together in a coop and run. Two days ago we noticed one of the EE's was seriously favoring one leg and limping. The only reason we found her was because I went to pick her up (she was sitting on a perch) and when I put her down she limped slowly. She sits on perches or the ground most of the time, while the other pullets dust bathe or scratch or something. So we flipped her over. My first thought was BUMBLEFOOT but upon further inspection there just wasn't any swelling in a particular area or any redness. She never pulled away when we touched her foot. Her leg and hip looks normal. BUT when we put her down, we noticed her middle toe was swelling and bending a little. It's her left foot, the one with the silver band.

For some reason I didn't get pics of the bottom of her foot. What do you guys think? What are some treatment options? I can get more pics if you want. She's about 14 weeks old.Currently we are soaking once daily in warm water and epsom salts.
Thank you!!

Okay well obviously that was a fail ^^^^

My pics aren't working. When my dad comes home this afternoon I'll have him put them up. In the meantime this is what I meant to write:

In our 4-H coop of 47 chickens we noticed one that was limping and constantly lifting its favored foot (an EE). She perched or sat down most of the time. So of course we flipped her over and checked out her foot. (this is where pics prob would have helped

) My first thought was BUMBLEFOOT but it doesn't present like any of the pics I've seen! I know there doesn't HAVE to be a black scab but still, there was no redness or swelling in a certain area. So when we put her back down we were surprised to see that her whole middle toe was swelling-still no redness- and slightly bent.
When we were touching her foot she never showed any sign that she was in pain, but it's obvious that she is when she puts weight on it.
Currently we are soaking once daily in epsom salts and warm water.
I'm looking for suggestions on what it could be/treatment options.
Thanks for your time and help!!
This thread is so useless without pics.

Please guys I really need help ASAP. We're thinking it's broken and so we're splinting with cardboard.
Are there any negative effects of splinting if it ends up not being broken?

Not sure whats up with the toe, but I would remove the band before it cuts off the circulation or cuts the skin. I would just soak it and have her stay off it for a bit. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply!!!
I just realized how tight the band looks but it's really not, so im pretty sure that's not it.
It's not even my chick and I'm getting in trouble for trying to help so i'm just dropping it. It makes me so sick that I can't do anything about it.

Hopefully it will heal on its own.
