Limping Rhode Island Red Rooster

*UPDATE*

After about 5 days of keeping our rooster indoors where we could monitor him and keep him in a small enclosure to prevent him from further damaging his leg I'm happy to say that he made a speedy and full recovery!

Turns out the he didn't have Marek's Disease which I'm thankful for. He seems to have had a bad landing coming out of his coop or something.

It was great to reunite him with his ladies and now everything is back to normal. Thanks to everyone for the help!

I had a limping hen all of a sudden one day... as all the hens free-ranged every afternoon, "Limping Leah" limped far behind the other...many days I carried her to the flock.. One day weeks later, I noticed, that I no longer had a limping hen...I really think she sprained it.
Good luck.

Hooray!! Glad to hear the good news about your roo, & about a little support also helping Leah past her problem, too!

Im glad to hear your good news about a full recovery! I was just outside bringing treats to the flocks and noticed my Rooster was limping with a bad limp

Im thinking because of all the ice and snow maybe he slipped and pulled something and landed funny and sprained it. But I was so nervous when I saw im not walking and then take a very small limping step. I just moved him into the breeder pen so it looks like I might not get fertile eggs for a little while*SIGH* I really hope he gets better soon.

I'm sorry to hear about your limping bird! I found that keeping our limping rooster in a small dog kennel/cage thing that we had in a storage shed helped a lot. It prevented him from moving too much but it didn't confine him in a way that was mean or upsetting to him. After a few days he started standing for short periods of time and then we started letting him out to walk around the kitchen. That helped build up his strength a bit and after a couple of more days I put him back with the flock. When I did that he seemed to bolt back to life. It was great.

Good luck and keep us posted!
