hi everyone. I noticed this morning that my 3 year old rooster is limping. I am not sure how to handle this because even though I handled him a lot as a baby I have not been able to get hold of him since his spurs came in. I do pet him after he is in the coop for the night but other than that he doesn't let me get near him. He has caught me off guard one time and spurred my foot so now im a.little afraid to actually pick him up. Any suggestions on how to get hold of him so I can exam his foot? Whenever I get near him he spins so he's always looking at me. Should I get gloves in case? I want to make sure everything is okay. I read that he could have bumblefoot and u treated could be fatal.
Anything would help. Thank you.
Jaime

If you could get a towel or small blanket on him and wrap him nice and snug like a burrito, you might have some luck. You might want to get a helper to hold him while you inspect his feet. Good luck!

At night when he is on the roost in the dark, might be a good time to grab him by the upper legs, and lift him of to examine him. Then wrap him in a towel. You can also trim his spurs with a dog nail clipper to dull them. If you have help, you could also get some pictures of his foot pads and his feet and legs. Look for swelling, scabs, and scaly leg mites.

Okay. Thank you for your replies im going to try tonight. From what I can see his foot looks swollen but I can't see anything further. I apprecaite all the help..

It looks like the foot. The left foot.
