my maran rooster is limping around and favoring is left foot. after i caught him yesterday i looked at his feet and it looked really swollen and feathers on feet were falling out i felt around and dont feel anything like glass rocks metal or thorns in foot. i also noted it isnt bumble foot no hard knots looks like a normal foot may not be correct on this first time with any dieseas or illnesses. we have had 7 inches of rain in a week in texas may be a chicken trench foot case or chicken athletes foot??? i figured it was something like that and sprayed his feet with antifungal spray looks better today swelling decreased feathers are looking better still kinda chopped up scragly. also another point where his feathers go in feet is swole and red today unlike his whole foot being red and swole yesterday. any pointers on this would be well appreciated hopefully nothing to serious

Can you post a picture of the legs and feet? Does he have leg mites? He could have injured his foot or leg. Feather-footed chickens are hard to examine when you are looking for swollen joints, bruising, or a break. I would probably cage him to rest the leg for a week or so to see if there is improvement in his limp. Things like gout, bad leg mites, mycoplasma synoviae, and a sprain may cause limping and a swollen foot. Gout can be caused by vitamin A deficiency, feeding high sodium or high calcium diets, aflatoxin poisoning, kidney damage from sulfa drug or certain antibiotics, and from certain strains on infectious bronchitis in the past. MS is a respiratory disease that can also affect the bones and joints. Here is some reading:
