On Friday evening (say 48 hours ago) I noticed that one of my turkey hens was limping. I saw that she seemed to have some kind of thread wrapped around one ankle, just up from the claws. When my husband got home I had him hold her while I used scissors to cut off the thin thread that had circled her leg about three times, digging pretty tightly into the scales. The foot was pretty swollen, compared to the other one, but I was able to remove the thread pretty quickly. Today she is still favoring that leg and the sore foot is still larger than the other one. Do you think there is anything else I should be doing for this girl?

Turkeys limbs can die from strings wrapped around them, I was just talking with some one recently who had that happen. Soak the foot in warm water and massage it to get the blood flowing again.

I hope she heals up well! Best of luck!
