(I originally posted this in the emergencies/diseases/injuries forum, but no one responded.)
Two of my (domesticated) Mallards hatched some adorable ducklings. They are about 3 days old. When I was bringing them in yesterday afternoon, I noticed one was limping. It is a long walk from the brook to the coop and the poor little thing was exhausted by the time she got in. I'm going to keep an eye on her, of course maybe she just needs to rest her hurt little flipper, but I was wondering if some of the more experienced folks here had any advice. I’m aware that there is a good chance that it is a “birth” defect. If there is no improvement within a few days, I will bring her in and take care of her, but I'd rather not stress her by removing from her mother and the flock prematurely or unnecessarily. : )
Thanks
