Hi everyone I live in Mesa AZ and have 5 chickens who are just over 1 year. Penelope, Gertrude, Priscilla, Henrietta and Olga. Penelope has been my problem chicken always getting egg bound. I soak her in warm water with Epson salt which does the trick. Unfortunately today my daughter’s dogs ball went too close to the coup which smashed the side wire and she bite Penelope in the butt. I followed your directions and just hoping she gets better. Thanks for your help!

Yes, there are two large bite marks and lots of feathers gone. We followed your suggestions with soaking in Epson, cutting off feathers around the wound, hydrogen peroxide mixed with water and Neosporin and she’s better but I’m still keeping it clean, gave her inside in a dog kennel and repeating the above. We googled problem with chicken to find your site. Thanks for your help!

Welcome to BYC, and good luck with Penelope. I would discontinue the hydrogen peroxide and continue with Neosporin - it is essential that flies be kept away from the wounds.

Thanks! She’s not crazy about the peroxide it does bubble a little. I’m thinking to give another Epson salt cool soak but not sure as I want wound to heal. Any thoughts?
