Hello
One of our chickens has started limping this week and upon examination I can see a round discoloration on the foot in question. It does not appear to be tender when touched. I've attached some pics and would appreciate advice on whether this is bumblefoot and, if possible, some links on how to treat.
Thanks

Hello, welcome to the site and sorry to hear about your hen. It does look like she has the beginning stages of bumblefoot. I’m going to link a site that has a chart with explanations on the stages of bumblefoot. She may have a stage one or so if you haven’t had to remove a plug.

There is advice on treatment on the site linked. Typically treatment involves soaking in epsom salt bathes, spraying with a wound spray and then covering with ointment and wrapping with gauze and vet wrap. With no plug to remove, you may not need to soak, since there isn’t a plug to soften. If you decide to wrap her foot, be very careful not to do it too tight and change the wrap every 12-24 hours to check circulation. Wraps slip and shift very easily so I check mine a few times a day when I have a chicken I am treating.

Several factors may contribute to bumblefoot, so survey the ground they run around and look for sharp surfaces or things such as splintery roosts. Sometimes a hen is more prone to it than others for reasons such as weight, too, however.

Good luck, hope she gets along okay!
