Liquid skin saved my button quail....pic

One of my buttons recently got hurt bad, but I used liquid skin on his head and now he is all healed up. Just wanted to let anyone know that might have a problem like this. It worked great and now my button is back to normal. His head healed and he is good as new. Can't even tell he was hurt.

What a great idea, with the liquid skin, this is the same stuff like second skin, for blisters correct? from time to time I could use something like this, Thank you very much. You mentioned you had some eggs available from your buttons, do you have mixed colors ? I'm looking for just the normal color buttons, they are getting hard to find. Please let me know.

I wish I had known about that a few weeks ago! I had a coturnix with an almost identical injury and thought the only option was to cull him since it was so gruesome and painful looking.

He got loose and hit our textured ceiling. But it works great. I have used it on a couple of my birds and you usually only have to use it once until their bodies repair the spot.. I keep the bird away from the others for a few days to it can heal better but it works great. Probably any brand would work. I use liquid skin and new skin, but there's probably others. I just don't want any of my other birds to pick at the sore, so I seperate them for a few days, but then they go back in their cage and the other birds do not seem to bother the hurt spot. I will get a picture soon and put it on and show you how well it healed, and it doesn't seem to bother the quail when you put it on. Just a nifty tip if your bird gets hurt and you do not have a vet around.

Wish I would have seen this a while ago. My son had button quail and the same thing happened. The poor thing didn't make it.

I am so sorry to hear that. I just used it a few different times when they got hurt as I use it allot for bandages and broken skin and it works good, so when my little guy tore his head open I thought he was a gonner, but I thought I would try it anyways, and it worked amazing, so I wanted to share it for anyone else who might need an answer if one of their birds gets hurt. I used it twice on small spots, but this was the first time I tried it for such a hugh area, that was bleeding and so open. The tear was down the side of his face almost to his eye. The picture is of him just after I put the liquid skin on and it stopped the bleeding. I was going to get on and ask if anyone had any ideas how to fix his head, but before I could, my button seemed okay, so I waited, and amazingly it healed itself in a very short time. So I hope it can help someone else if something happens. It is very inexpensive, and would also probably work on most any other kind of animal.

I had to give one of my coturnix stitches once, they are so tough and such great healers you'd never know anything happened to him now. Another alternative if the edges of the wound won't come together.
