List of egglaying factors

can we use regular vinegar or does it have to be acv? also how much scratch per bird? Thanks!
We use the BRAGG Organic (raw and unfiltered) ACV with the "mother" in it. We found a 16 oz glass jar at Kroger for $4 and some change. But Walmart carries it now in a much bigger jar and it's only $3 and some change. I've read to put one tablespoon per gallon. It's good for quite a few things so definitely worth using. :)

Mine are going through their molting process now. That stop egg production so the protein can go to the growth of new feathers. Its been about 2 weeks and their just now starting to lay again. I was reading about molting online and they said it could last up to 7 weeks.

Water--- Loads of fresh cool water I(with vinegar in is fine). (especially in this heat).

I'm surprised no one mentioned worming. If they have to share their rations with internal parasites...they have less energy to make eggs.

And that old wives tale about pepper---well I've heard that the pepper isn't something that the chickens taste, but it will cause them to be thristy...and drink more water. :O)

good luck.

Mine love Tuna!!! and it helped bring them back to laying status after their molt!
I have 3 year old hens and 5 month old hens, the 3 year olds only stopped laying during their molt, the 5 month olds just started laying

I love all the great ideas, my chickens are enclosed but get out in the back yard once or twice a week. I found that one hen was getting out over an 8 foot fence, through the trees and laying her eggs in the neighbors bushes and then coming back. Two others found a bag of straw that I had left over from their nesting boxes and opened it and started laying there. You may want to check and see if there is any nook or corner where they could still be laying eggs, cause they like to be tricky some times. I have a mister going all day to keep the girls cooler and two wading pools that they love to sip out of but won't jump in. When I fill them each morning I let them overflow onto the ground and they love to run around in the puddles, they act like little kids then. They have a big shade tree and we also put up shade cloth which has helped a lot and we have seen egg production go up since we added that. The cooler the better I think. I try to give them a lot of attention when I give them scratch and greens so they come running when ever I go out to their coop. Once the heat is gone they should do much better as well.

Hi

I am new here, just wanted to say thank you, some terrific advice!

ACV is interesting for mites, I have also heard a garlic clove in their water, not sure if that is true though.
I do like the idea of natural remedies for these things.

Onna - That is a very hansome rooster, I wish I could buy him from you, sadly I live too far away.

When my chickens start cutting back on laying I up the food and treats. Especially protein. When I feed crumbles only I get very few and unpredictable laying. As soon as I give scraps/left overs sunflower seeds and treats egg production picks up almost over night!
