List of really docile, friendly chicken breeds

I like both breeds but b/c the Favs. are on the critical list....I like to "help" keep them going.

chiknmama was just telling a story today about leaving her door open and her austrolorp pullet just waltzing right in!! So yeah, I'd say they are pretty friendly!

Of our 4 girls our favs are the barred rock and the black sex-link.

The banty cochin is in another category & we adore her. We didn't raise her, so hard to say. I agree that she's more timid than the others.

last year I got some kind of horrible red things that ate each other, so this year I was determined to have sweet chickens, who got along. I bought lots of chicks. Blessed not only with sweet chickens, but I only lost 3 chicks out of fifty. Here's what I got, and my experience with them: Barnesfelders. The roosters are so smart and brave. would take a bullet for any other chicken in the coop. The pullets are sweet and quiet. don't interact with people as well as the roos. Cuckoo Marins--big chickens. developed fast. Not very interacive with people but good with the rest of the flock. Easter Eggers--at worst, stand offish. some hens have really cute personalities. The rooster is totally lazy and just sits around all day, whereas the Cuckoo Marins roos will urge the hens to eat and the Barnesfelders roos will adopt anything and care for it. But he's beautiful, like a patchwork quilt. I named him Harlequin and he at least speaks when you walk past him in the coop. Black Copper Marins---friendly birds, roos and pullets. Very curious. a little bit subservient, but they are younger...Wellsummers--very sweet expressions. not overly interactive with people, but get along well with other chickens. Dominique pullets. tend to stick together, but very friendly with others. Favarolles. Cutie patooties! a little shy, but Barn. rooster watches out for them. Barred rock rooster---I don't know where he came from...He has an affinity for the dominique pullets.Plays well with others... Crockett, the big Barnesfelder rooster, deserves all the earthly credit for making it work I'm really enjoying them and they are due to start laying in 2 weeks. Sometimes sharing a tender moment with a chicken just sorts things out. Also, thanks to pyr cross "Boudaca", whose flock this is, and dachshund "Psycho", who eats and often sleeps and hangs out with the flock...(Perhaps they think he's a Silky...)

Okay--edited: My barnevelders, easter eggers, cuckoo marans, black copper marans, welsummers and dominiques all get along real well. barnevelder roos very protective of entire flock.
