I'm glad you trust him. Good for you.
Personally, I've never met a private Vet that I would trust with my chickens. That is not a knock at Vets; since I'm a Doctor (not a Vet) and my brother and his wife are Vets. When it comes to chickens I want a Poultry Expert. That's why I contact Clemson University when I do have a question.
Wish we had that luxury here. My choices are either that particular Vet or the animal hospital (and I don't believe they work with birds of any kind, just cats and dogs). So I am actually very grateful for that particualr Vet. He does good work, educates the owners and is pretty much on call 24/7.
That is very good. You do have the same luxury. Every State has there on Land Grant College and State Vets office. If you ever need anything you call the State Vet first and ask to speak to someone in the Poultry Division. If they can't answer the question then they will give you a direct number to the leading Poultry Specialist at the Land Grant College.
That's just the way it works. Tax dollars at work.
Now, if you need someone to 'look' at your bird, it sounds like you have someone close by that can help.
