Litter box, why?

I have wanted to box train our yorkie for the hawk reason. DH's dog is getting real old and has night blindness, she "uses" a pad it is a hit and miss though. She just can't seem to get her buttom in the right area. Any suggetions on training an old dog ?

I've got no good suggestions, just wanted to commiserate. My geriatric dog is experiencing dementia. She forgets she's gone out and forgets she's supposed to 'go' outside. I've tried crating her but she gets very upset because of the dementia and it makes everything even worse. I wish I had a good suggestion...

With our geriatric dogs that started peeing everywhere ... we went with the doggie diapers. Was easiest on everyone. They have diapers FOR dogs but we just made our own out of kids diapers (much cheaper).

As for litter box training pups ... I just LOVE it! Makes it SOOOOOO much nicer then having to bath dirty puppies every other day

And they pick it up so fast. Very useful, I just wish the older dogs kept the training when they got older to use every now and then ... like when we go to hotels!

litter boxs are great for toy dogs BUT there are somethings people dont relaize about litter training a dog from a puppy if you litter train a puppy make sure you also occassionally take it outside to go potty why? becuase sometimes when a puppy is tuaght to just use the litter box they refuse to go potty on any other surface other then the litter which is a HUGE HUGE hassle when you say take your dog on car rides or over to a freinds house or out walking for the day and if you try to teach them to go outside after they have been solely litter trained it can be difficult.
my sister wanted her toy poodle puppy litter trained but after the first 3 weeks of going only on litter she refused to go potty on the grass my sister got so sick of hualing a litter box and litter around she decided to train her to go outdoors which took twice as long and was very frustrating even now at a year and a half old sometimes she will jsut flat out refuse to go potty on the grass and will hold it untill she cant hold it anymore and sneak upstairs to go pee or poo on the carpet we could have her outside for 8 hours only to have her come in and go on the floor very frustrating
so make sure you teach them to go potty in a litter box AND on grass
