Snatched up some baby chicks from the F&F this spring, and before I knew it they were ready to be outside! Now, I'm looking at my "coop" and it needs some major renovations! Looking to add nesting boxes and a roost. I'm more than appreciative of any and all advise on building a coop for 6, on a pretty tight budget.

Thanks!

Good luck with your coop build and welcome to our flock!

Thanks for the links! I'm currently trying to stockpile all the scrap I can get. As far as my chickies go I have 2 silver laced Wyandotte, 2 Rhode Island Red, 1 barred rock. And one other that came from the "straight runs" that has yet to be determined. Can't wait to watch my whole production evolve!

Not sure where you are located but don't hesitate if you see someone taking down an old redwood fence, to ask them for some of the old fence boards. I have built my entire coop from recycled material. Even old pallets work great if you can find a few of those just wrap some chicken wire around it, add a few Tupperware tubs to it for the nesting boxes and you have yourself a backwoods pen. Good luck.
