Little Children and Little Quail

I've been eyeing some really pretty candycane corn snakes, but again, would need to start breeding my own mice for food...
Pet mice...not so much for me....though I can't argue their cuteness!

Quote:
Why breed your own mice? They're stinky if not meticulously cared for and... so much work to harvest & freeze them! If you find a good rodent supplier, they come cheap (less than $2 each), and a full-grown snake only needs one a week. $8 a month feed cost is pretty affordable for any pet.

It's not the cost, it's the health of the snake.

For me: An animal is as healthy as it's food. Having kept herps for a decade (or two), I decided that my preference is to breed my own feeders and thereby directly control their health. I have never fed frozen - again, personal preference.

Stinky and prolific!

That is some of why pet mice are not my choice for pets.

So - now that the snakes are fed -

I think I'll go with hatching some Cots for the purpose of giving them a spoiled, pampered life. Anyone know where I can get eggs for hatching from some cool colored parent stock?

Hey! There's got to be a rule about throwing stuff!!

When the time comes...like, it's good to have a 'bator and brooder ready....

Thanks for the input all.

I must admit I am a big fan of cots for pets. They're really not stinky if you keep their cage clean, they adapt well to indoor life, and they can become quite tame. Enjoy!
