Hello!
I have a question that I hope I can get some good feedback on.
This year I picked up three little bantam chicks, and ended up with one dude. Well, he's grown on me and unless he's crazy loud, he'll likely stay in my back yard flock. I believe he's a blue or blue splash bantam cochin. I'll try to get a good photo of him and post it here.
I also have 5 adult australorp hens, plus two jersey giants, and two EE's. I adore my australorps, and will always have a few in my flock.
So now my question.....
Is there any benefit to hatch out some of the australorps eggs (if he's even able to mate with them)? What would be the benefit of a bantam cochin and standard australorp cross?
I wasn't planning on having a roo, or at least not a bantam roo, so the thought of hatching my own eggs never really occurred to me. Now that I have one, I'm not sure if there would be a great benefit to do so.
I have my current chickens primarily for eggs and bug control.
Any thoughts?
Justine
