I have 9 chicks that will be 5 weeks old on the 5th of June. They are 2 RIR, 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 3 EE, and 2 236 Ideal. Ont he 5th we are acquiring 3 1 day old chicks. 1 Australorp and 2 BO.How long before should I keep the babies separated from the bigger babies? I don't want them to her the little ones. I will keep them all separated if I have to but I'd like to have them all together by the time the baby babies are 5-6 weeks. We originally had 10 chicks. The 10th was given to us as she had a crooked beak and one eye that never opened. The other 9 pecked her good eye out and we separated her from them. She died 2 days later. I just don't want to repeat that. The new girls are pets for my daughters. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. I just need answers before the 5th. I'll keep them separated until they are full grown if I have to. I also have 4- 2 1/2 yr old EE's. I know to keep the babies (all of them) away from the big girls. But older chicks and younger chicks, I am stumped. I tried doing research but found no answers to my particular dilemma. Thanks

I have a group of six 9 week old chicks and 3 that are 4-5 weeks old. The younger ones are just transitioning to outside (still have aheat lamp at night as it will drop below 40 tonight). I have had the little ones in a dog kennel inside the run for a few days, tried letting them out with the big girls and it did not go well, the big girls were pretty quick it go after the little ones so I had to rescue them. I am going to make one corner of the run a grow out coop until they are closer to the same size.
