So I have a small flock of 3 BSL and 2 BO they are about 18 weeks old and I finally got my first egg today and..... it was tiny!?!? Is there something wrong or is this perfectly normal. Also I feed them organic grower is it okay to eat the "egg?"

Congrats on your first egg! It's an exciting time. I'm new to chickens this year, and my first egg was tiny, too--but so cute! My Sexlinks first eggs were really small, but the have gotten bigger since then. My RIR just started laying last weekend (finally), and her eggs are small, too. From what I've seen and read on this site, this is normal.

Enjoy your tiny eggs"! I cooked mine with some ceremony in a tiny frying pan. Mmmmm...my first ever farm fresh eggs. Enjoy!

Think of laying an egg as an exercise. When you first start to exercise you start slowly, and then increase in time and duration as you build you self up. The pullets have to do this as well, start small and work up in size.

Thanks for the advice!

And I made a nice batch of scrambled eggs with my small eggs...

BEST I ever had!!!! :P

Congrats! Den in Penn is right. My first few eggs were tiny as well, but have started to increase in size. Don't be surprised if you also gave a few eggs w/o a shell on them. I've encountered 2 of those. It's all part of the game until the hen's body gets used to it's new routine.
