little feathered genuises!

I do agree that chickens are very smart. It only took ours one evening of being in the coop (we got our entire initial flock full grown from several sources) to know how to get in and out of the run and coop door to roost. They've also learned to see if we are carrying anything when we step out the back door so they know to come running for treats or not. Whenever I'm processing a deer they also come stand around the grinder because they know I'll toss them scraps that we don't eat and each and every time I open up our BSF bin they crowd around my feet waiting for yummy grubs. Now that I think about it chickens are very smart when it comes to food! I'd say they are close to being as smart as our dog and if I could train the chickens to fetch and guard the yard against cats and stray humans I wouldn't need the German Shepard.

Ducks on the other hand.... our ducks are dingbats.

i know that some people go "i'm losing weight" when they are vegetarian but i think it's still not very healthy :p

we can'thave them be free range(we have neighbors)
That cracks me up right there! We thought that an acre of land would be enough to keep our chickens occupied and happy... nope. They end up a quarter of a mile away in someone else' yard or on their porch pecking at the door to come in. Hence the reason I've spent the last weekend building fence for the property. Darn chickens sure do like to wander around.

So cute! I have seen chickens purr like cats when they're happy, and even play fetch! If only chickens were as big as dogs...They'd be the perfect house pet at all times!:D

LOL I love it when they do that! "Hey, human. Hey! Open up! You got any food?...HUMAN!"

Oh don't say that! Our oldest hen frequently comes up to us to be held. My 22 month old daughter picks her up and carries her into the house for "play time". I swear that chicken would sleep in the house with us if we'd let her!

I wish they were as big as dogs because they act like dogs, make them a little bigger and people wouldn't mind! When I can I will let them inside, they're too adorable not to. My past flock would peck at the glass door and just watch me until I'd play with them again.
