i have two 4 month old rhode island red chickens. for some reason they dont want to drink from the automatic waterer. it is red, just like the small plastic one that they used as chicks. they will drink from a stainless bowl at the same height as the automatic waterer, but they would die of thirst before drinking from the automatic waterer. it is mounted from above with a 1/2" pvc pipe and suspended about 10" or less off the ground.

The rim of the red waterer may stick up above the water level to much for them to do their swallowing thing, you know when they take a drink and then lift their heads to swallow Try lowering it to 8"

ok i will lower it a bit and see if that works.

nope... dropped it down to near ground level now and they wont touch it... they run out of the coop in the morning to get a drink from their old waterer... the one they used as chicks.. and they drink and drink etc...

this is so strange. i have used these before and all the chickens drank from it.
